A Weekend in Seattle

A few weeks ago, Marty was invited to judge an advertising awards show up in Seattle, and we decided that was the perfect opportunity to make a weekend city break out of it and take in some of the fresh air of the Pacific Northwest. We had a beautiful weekend, and managed to take in some amazing views of the city, see Mount Ranier in the distance and get in some fabulous eating, drinking and shopping.

It was also the perfect opportunity to meet Marty's old creative partner Scott and his girlfriend Britt out for a drink! I think the best part about moving a lot is getting to know friends in all different parts of the country (and world for that matter) and the worst part is having to leave them. It's great to have the chance to travel and visit with old friends almost everywhere we go!


Before getting on the short 2 hour flight north, I started by doing a little research on websites of a couple of my favorite magazines Lucky & Domino (sister magazines about fashion and interiors), and also talking to a good friend who lived in Seattle for a few years to get recommendations for restaurants, shops and entertainment in the city. Our friend's recommendation and the city guides on the magazine websites were great, and pointed us in the direction of some fabulous finds, including this little shop pictured below called Souvenir. The man who runs the shop, Curtis Steiner, is a talented artist and his shop is just amazing. He also gave us a great recommendation for dinner that night at a restaurant called How to Cook a Wolf. I really admire people who take major risks to open up their own businesses to showcase their art and their style and managed to create their own success. It's truly inspirational to see how his attention to detail and friendly personality really made visiting this shop memorable. (It's also to be noted that he also gave us an SF recommendation for a beautiful little shop about 2 blocks from our apartment that we had never even heard of!)

I love being able to support local artists and businesses, and Seattle is famous for them.


Seattle is also famous for its Public Market.
We perused the goods, and admired the freshness of the fish in the Pacific Northwest.

After that we headed over to the original Starbucks. It's quite amazing being at the first little coffee shop that sparked a global sensation.

All in all, we had a great time in Seattle and feel like we really took advantage of our 48 hours there!
