Happy Birthday, Big Guy.

Oh, hi there.

Let's take a moment to celebrate our little man's first birthday that happened on December 31st, 2010. What kind of bloggers (parents?!) are we that we didn't post something right on his birthday? The super-busy-do-it-when-we-can-do-it-right kind.

Hugo's special day was marked by a beautiful Midwestern snowfall and a birthday party at his Grandma and Grandpa Schultz's house. Great Grandma Rosie, Grandma & Grandpa, Uncle Kevin, Aunt Beth and Jason were all there to ring in the beginning of Hugo's second year of life.

(Window decals reveal a snow-covered yard.)

(Schultz family fun.)

Hugo was surrounded by balloons, ribbons, cupcakes, ice cream, noisemakers, birthday hats and love on his special day.

The cautious eater he is, Hugo didn't dive right into his cake, instead choosing to carefully spoon reasonable portions of the sweet treat into his mouth. While still perfecting his skills with utensils, the little guy remained pretty tidy throughout dessert.

An exhausting, but exciting and special day ended with many presents and the usual good night stories and cuddles. Marty and I put Hugo to bed then braved the cold and snowy evening wearing our fancy pants to raise a celebratory glass of champagne, while Grandma & Grandpa babysat the sleeping birthday boy. It was, of course, also New Year's Eve, and we wanted to toast not only our first year as parents, but the many amazing years to come.

Happy birthday, Hugo!

Isn't it scary how one little haircut turns your baby into a BOY. He sure is a handsome one. =)
