Baby and Baby Room: Both currently under construction

Well, I think we might be busy this weekend painting our storage...ahem...baby room. We'll need to get all of the boxes of stuff out before we start doing anything, but hopefully that's the easiest part. Here's a reminder of where we stand with this room as of today. Daunting, no?


And here's our vision for what the room will look like in a few weeks!


Since we're keeping Baby Senn's gender a surprise until his or her birth, we didn't want to go too masculine or feminine, but instead give ourselves a nice gender-neutral base that we could boy- or girl-up at a moment's notice.

We started with a nice slate gray wall and bright white crown moulding and trim, then added a set of apple green Flor tiles in the middle of the room to inject a pop of bright color and some softness underfoot. The wonderful nursery furniture Katja shipped across the entire country to us is a beautiful bright white and will really stand out against the walls and with the green carpet.

I also wanted to throw in some sunny yellow accents throughout the room - from a white lacquered lamp with a yellow shade to the cute "elephant parade" bedding. The little pink square in the color palette is just a little taste of what we'd add if Baby Senn is a girl. I tend to like adding some natural textures to bedrooms, so we dropped in a solid wood side table, bamboo blinds and rattan baskets.

Crisp white linen curtains will soften up the walls and look sharp against the gray walls. And aren't those little bird illustrations the cutest you've ever seen! I came across an artist on etsy.com and couldn't resist getting a trio of her prints. To top it off, we'll throw in a perfectly coordinated Owl pillow from CB2 to tie together the color palette and owl illustration.

Wish us luck as we take on this giant task! We'll keep posting our in-progress shots so you guys can admire all the work that Marty is (I mean WE are) doing to make a nice little bedroom for the baby.
